overload

Mois de la Photo | Bulan Foto I OVERLOAD I LIP Galerie 20th November 03rd December, 2007

OVERLOAD in the Indonesian dictionary can be interpreted and translated as overweight or over capacity. Its representations can be seen in our everyday life, and in every aspect of it: from our social environment to cultural one. Everything, in a slow but determinate way, has already gone over the limits, the accepted volume and somehow the system capacity. Technology, characterized by its acceleration and information speed, is moving in a parallel way. This is not a matter of modernism, globalization or urban culture anymore. These are just common pictures, usual images in our daily life.
Untitled, 2007

Ruang MES 56 and its project OVERLOAD were selected as part of the Month of Photo 2007 to give a more experimental thought and provoking approach to the medium of photography. Overload of images/information/technology speed vs a proposal to return to basic situations of life. Artists: Agung Nugroho Widhi, Akiq AW, Anang Saptoto, Angki Purbandono, Edwin Dolly Roseno, Eko Bhirowo, Wimo Ambala Bayang and Wok The Rock.

weather report

It was the beginning of rainy season. I had to wait for more than an hour to get out from this place to go home.

twenty-one grams

How many lives do we live? How many times do we die? They say we all lose 21 grams... at the exact moment of our death. Everyone. And how much fits into 21 grams? How much is lost? When do we lose 21 grams? How much goes with them? How much is gained? How much is gained? Twenty-one grams. The weight of a stack of five nickels. The weight of a hummingbird. A chocolate bar. How much did 21 grams weigh?
